What the app collects

Nothing. The app is built without Android's internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere, to us or to anyone else. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no ads and no crash reporting.

What it keeps, and where

Shimmer saves your settings, so the light behaves the way you left it the next time you open the app: whether you are on the light or the dark theme; everything set in Tune — how each power pulls, reaches and fades, how the light drifts, which currents are moving, how many particles there are and which colours they come in; whether sound and vibration are on, and how loud and how strong; and whether the currents and the frame-rate readout are shown.

There is nowhere in the app to type anything, so none of this is about you. It is kept in the app's own private storage on your phone, where no other app can read it, and uninstalling the app deletes it. The app's sounds are worked out by the app itself while it runs and contain nothing about you.

Permissions

Shimmer asks for one permission, vibration, so your finger can feel the light it is holding. You can turn vibration off inside the app. It has no access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, files or the network.

Using it in a browser

Everything above describes the Android app, which is what the Play listing links this page from. The same app also opens in a browser on shivom.me, and that version is a web page: it has to be fetched over the network, so whoever serves it records the ordinary things any web server records, such as your IP address and which files were asked for. That is the page being delivered to you, not the app watching what you do.

The app itself still collects nothing and sends nothing back. Your settings are kept in your browser's own storage on your device, the same way they are kept in the app's private storage on a phone, and clearing the site's browsing data removes them. Its sounds are worked out in the page and played by your browser; nothing about them leaves your device either.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. It collects no data from anyone, children included.

Google Play

Google Play collects its own data about installs, independently of this app. That is covered by Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy, not by this one.
